How It Works
This category is 100% public voting so it doesn’t have to be the best wave, just the most popular clip. This year we have a mix of barrels, turns, fin-free fun & pure surf stoke.
The people’s champ will win a $300 Slimes Newcastle Gift Card, a case of Modus Beer & $50 Modus Brewery Gift Card
Over the next week we will be posting the Quarter Finals and voting will be done via Instagram stories ~ entrants gee your mates up! Semi Finals to follow with the same system and the Grand Final will be decided by a vote during the 2022 Wave of the Winter Presentation/Screening at Modus Brewery (date to be locked in)
Like last year the Wave of the Winter Winner will be judged by MR and there are a few crazy barrels not included here 🤙

Quarter Final 1
Both filmed by Shane Blue, it’s a battle for the heart of Newcastle Beach. Lewie Dunn’s pigdog mastery at an unknown right vs. Michael Reilly reminding us riding waves is lots of fun and not that serious.

Amazingly Ethan Pearce has fins in for this timeless rail work, and he’s up against some of the steeziest drifting we’ve ever seen by Connor Gibney. Both filmed by Shane Blue.

Zac McMahon with a beautiful tube to carve at a secret right vs the unknown ‘Surfer X’ keeping us thoroughly entertained with a sick bottom turn, to a smile in the barrel so big, only a lip to the head could wipe it away. Both filmed by Shane Blue.

Quarter Final 4
Browny aka Mullet Lord knows his way around a pigdog, and this year is no different filmed by Dave Anderson. Up against him his Jax Brent’s JJF-esque layback (but better because it’s on an MR in the rocks bowl) filmed by Shane Blue

Unlike the early rounds, the final is decided offline by voting at the WOTW 2024 presentation. We will once again be running our highly corruptible bottle cap in a jar system.
