WHAT IS HYFI 3.0?

HYFI 3.0 is our next major upgrade to stay on the cutting edge of surfboard construction, utilising everything we’ve learnt from both HYFI2.0 and CarboTune, revolving around a full carbon bottom and rails. For HYFI 3, this provides even better strength and longevity of performance. The main components are: EPS core Unique multi layered epoxy & hybrid fibres Engineered carbon stringers Full carbon bottom and rails Innegra deck reinforcement This new combination of layers gives you a snap back and lively torsion, so as you lean into a turn it’s always loading up and projecting you forward. For any weaker conditions requiring surfers to create their own excitement, it’s the best we’ve made yet.

SCALED ENGINEERING

We first built these scaled pins for use across the HYFI2.0 range, and after overwhelmingly positive feedback, we’ve continued with the same scaled pins in the deck of each HYFI 3. We found the next level of this technology by developing precision engineered stringers, or pins, which are scaled specifically for each board. The size of the pin changes depending on the dimensions of the HYFI, and therefore the weight of its intended rider. The shape of each board’s pin perfectly reflects our goal of making the stiffest part of the board at the centre, tapering out to each end. This results in an even better flex pattern that helps you load and explode into turns.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

We discovered a lot throughout construction of the 100% carbon boards which became CarboTune. It’s been tested by surfers of all sizes, in every type of wave, resulting in a technology that’s been carefully tuned and adjusted for each set of dimensions we build. That means your next best board ever is made in HYFI 3. “The next step was to combine the two. Strength, stiffness and response of the carbon, combined with the spring of HYFI.” JS “What I really, really like about this construction is just how easy it is to surf. The spring and reaction time. With CarboTune, the harder you surf it, the more you get out of it because of the extra stiffness. As for these, you can just surf it at 60-70% and you still get so much benefit.” JS

“It’s addictive. The carbon is so addictive, you ride it and you feel this spring back you’ve never had before. And you want more.” Luke Egan “It has that X factor for me. This is your WRX, if you wanna get somewhere fast this board will get you there.” Joel Parkinson

Baron Flyer

TWO OF OUR ALL TIME FAVOURITE TWINS IN ONE.

Building on our love of twin fins, we’ve kept an array of the design features that made our OG Baron one of the most widely loved boards of all time, maintaining equal parts old school speed and new school flair. The Baron Flyer has foam in all the right places to float over soft sections and fly down the line, yet still allow you to lay it on rail or bust the fins even when you’re going Mach 10.

Slightly more curve than the original Black Baron ensures you’ve got enough rocker to fit right in the pocket, yet still generate and maintain plenty of speed. This is complemented by a moderate single concave running into double concave, providing extra lift and liveliness, and complemented by a balanced, manoeuvrable plan shape. The other main change is an even flatter deck, with low rails. And of course, the round tail with a flyer allows us to maintain more width through the middle but with a relatively pulled in tail. So, ride your Baron Flyer ¼” wider than your OG Black Baron dims.

Fin positioning is also moved further forward to maintain balance between release and control, due to the tail pod being much narrower than the OG Black Baron. This prompts quick, reliable engagement and easy rail to rail transitions, even in weak conditions. Whatever surf you choose to ride it in, the Baron Flyer gives you the freedom to take new lines and go faster than ever in small waves.

*Rides 5'8” x 20 3/4” x 2 1/2” = 32.5L

WAVE TYPE

Baron Flyer performs best in flatter waves where you're looking to generate your own speed. And as a bonus, it overdelivers in quality surf too – especially longer waves where you can make the most of its incredible ability to fly down the line & make sections.

BARON FLYER

Features

Rocker

An overall low to flat rocker is well suited to create speed and glide in small to average conditions.

Fin setup

The Baron Flyer comes stock as a twin fin. In Futures bases, we recommend our JSxMFC Twin Fin that has been tried and tested with this board design. In FCS, we recommend the Power Twin.

Glassing specs

Boards 5'2" to 5'9" are glassed standard with 4 oz. deck x 4 oz. bottom. Boards 5'10" to 6'2" are glassed 4 x 3 oz. deck x 4 oz. bottom. 6'4" + are glassed 4 x 4 oz. deck x 4 oz. bottom. (All sizes come standard with Hybrid Fibre tail strips).

Rail type

The Baron flyer has flat low rails as a result of the board's flat deck, hiding volume in the right places for extra float, but also allowing you to turn at high speed.

BARON FLYER

CONCAVE

Baron Flyer has a moderate single concave running into double concave through the fins, providing extra lift and liveliness.
